Academic requirements
An academic level comparable with a Dutch Bachelor of laws diploma. For the Master's programme International and European Law (any specialisation) a basic knowledge of Public International Law and European law is required. The Amsterdam Law School offers a deficiency course only in European Union Law. This course is provided by the Law School in September. Credits earned in this course are not included in the required 60 ECTS credits. The Amsterdam Law School does not offer a deficiency course in Public International Law.
International and European Law: The Master's programme in International and European Law is aimed at students who are planning a career in international law or European law. The programme consists of two components, international law and European law, which share a number of mandatory courses. There are also a number of optional courses. This structure allows for specialisation in either of the components, while taking into account their common foundation. The programme seeks to develop an understanding of the theory and practice of international and European law. The teaching methods and evaluations focus on developing writing, analytical and communicative skills, as well as knowledge of Black Letter Law. To this end greater emphasis is placed on written and oral assignments than of traditional exams. The teaching staff includes highly qualified international and European lawyers.
