Participants should be fluent in both written and spoken English. Applicants from countries where English is not the language of instruction need to have obtained a score of at least 550 on the TOEFL test (or a score of at least 213 on a computer TOEFL test) or provide proof of an equivalent test or provide proof that part of their education was in English. Or equal knowledge of German.

The program is open to postgraduate students holding a dregree in veterinary medicine or a related subject. Successful applicants must have a strong interest in basic veterinary sciences with focus on structural and functional molecular biology. The research program will be restricted to the function of the gastrointestinal tract of ruminants or pigs with focus on transport function, barrier function and molecular reactions in diseases. The PhD candidates will be embedded in the Dahlem Research School to obtain the neccessary credit points for course work. The estimated duration of the program is 3 years.
