Information
The aim of the course is to offer a historical understanding of the political systems of South Asia; the course will give a particular emphasis on the forces shaping the structure of politics in the region: a) the pre-colonial religious and social values, b) the ideas originating from the colonial past, c) the ideas originating from the struggle for independence and nationalism. The course will focus in particular on the following themes: political culture, the models of political party, the role of non-elected institutions, and the impact of the ethnic-religious factor on the process of state building.
