Language requirements
Participants should be fluent in both written and spoken English. Applicants from countries where English is not the language of instruction need to have obtained a score of at least 550 on the TOEFL test (or a score of at least 213 on a computer TOEFL test) or provide proof of an equivalent test or provide proof that part of their education was in English.

Advanced biophysical research in the framework of a new collaborative research center (CRC1078, see The integrated graduate school provides state-of-the-art training in new concepts of experimental and theoretical biophysics. The experimental project involves time-resolved tracking of protein function in photoynthetic water splitting after excitation with nanosecond Laser pulses employing infra-red and other spectroscopic methods. In conjunction with the Berlin cluster of excellence on unifying concepts in catalysis (see, also a research focus on biomimetic catalysts for artificial photosynthesis (that is, use of solar energy for production of non-fossil fuels) is conceivable.
